Neo-Geografik

2026
Cartography is a kind of story telling and a political act. Drawing borders, defining territories, laying and losing claim to spaces and places is part of human history. I have always had a fascination with maps and how they can abstract, simplify or obfuscate the complexity of the lived experience of a familiar place, at the same time they induce curiosity and the desire to explore places unknown. Neo-Geografik is an ongoing series that reimagines our mappings, playing with geographical, cultural and historical references. These visual pranks reveal underlying dynamics and expose the ambiguity of territorial relationships. Maps from National Geographic magazines and world atlases are cut up and juxtaposed in new geographies. The collage is then scanned, printed on archival paper and affixed to small mahogany blocks, available in editions of five. Each series is also available as a set in playing card format.
